After new allegations against Roman Polanski, a trial takes place in California. This is scheduled to begin in 2025.

A civil trial against director Roman Polanski (90) in California is scheduled to begin in August 2025. This is reported by “TheWrap”, among others. The filmmaker is accused of rape; the corresponding lawsuit was filed in June 2023, according to the report.

According to TheWrap, a judge in Santa Monica set the trial date after the California-based plaintiff filed the lawsuit under a law that extends the statute of limitations in child abuse cases. The alleged crime is said to have occurred in 1973. According to the allegations, Roman Polanski gave the then underage woman alcohol and raped her. According to the AP, Roman Polanski said through a lawyerthat he “vehemently denies the allegations made against him in the lawsuit.”

Decades of escape from the US authorities

The French-Polish filmmaker fled the United States decades ago to avoid conviction after being accused of raping a minor in 1977. The director, who has lived in Europe since then, was subsequently accused of sexual abuse on several occasions. There is also currently a legal case in France against Roman Polanski because he is said to have slandered a British actress who claimed that he had abused her.

The bone of contention in this case is an interview that Polanski gave to the French magazine “Paris Match” in 2019. In it, the director described the actress’s 2010 accusation as a “vile lie.” They’re trying to “make him a monster.” The editor of “Paris Match” is also accused of libel. The British actress accuses Polanski of sexually abusing her in 1982. She was a minor at the time.
