New allegations in chess Zoff
Carlsen is said to have paid for “cheat” chants

Chess grandmaster Hans Niemann is demanding $100 million from world champion Magnus Carlsen because he is accused of cheating. Now the American is following suit: Carlsen is said to have given another chess professional money to sing abusive songs. However, there are doubts about it.

The dispute between chess world champion Magnus Carlsen and grandmaster Hans Niemann enters the next round. After the American sued the Norwegian for 100 million US dollars in damages a few weeks ago, he is now demanding that further proceedings be opened against the superstar. As first reported by the Norwegian newspaper “Aftenposten” and a little later also by the TV station TV2, chess superstar Magnus Carlsen is threatened with further trouble. A lawsuit has again been filed against the Norwegian, again the prosecutor is the US grandmaster Hans Niemann.

Among other things, Niemann had already sued Carlsen for 100 million US dollars a few months ago after the Norwegian had publicly accused him of fraud without providing concrete evidence. And while Carlsen’s attorneys moved to have the lawsuit dismissed, Niemann added another chapter to his indictment.

Niemann accuses Carlsen that the Norwegian and his team publicly exposed and insulted him at a tournament in Mayrhofen, Austria, in October 2022. In addition, Carlsen is said to have paid another chess professional, his compatriot Aryan Tari, 300 euros to have him shout “cheater Hans” from the stands during the tournament. While Carlsen and his team were in the city of Mayrhofen, they are said to have sung “Fraud Hans” again and again. Neither Tari nor Carlsen commented on the new indictment to Aftenposten or TV2.

The Secretary General of the European Chess Federation, Theodoros Tsorbatzoglou, told Aftenposten that he had not heard of anyone who could confirm Niemann’s story in this way. He has already asked several people present at the tournament about possible incidents of this kind. “If something like this had really happened, it would have been reported immediately,” Tsorbatzoglou did not follow Niemann’s account.
