If the circulation of Covid-19 in France is slowing down, the authorities are launching a new vaccination campaign this Thursday for the most vulnerable people. Because in the hospitals, the patients of the virus are still numerous, and the infectiologists recall that it is necessary to be vaccinated regularly, to be protected from serious forms.
He is one of the great absentees from the news in recent months: the Covid-19 is however still present on French territory. The Directorate General of Health (DGS) is launching a new vaccination reminder campaign against this coronavirus this Thursday, aimed at the most fragile.
A virus that still kills
Thus, until June 16, the most fragile people, such as the immunocompromised, residents of nursing homes, the over 80s but also obese people and pregnant women, are called upon to be vaccinated again.
Because if we detect around 7,500 cases every day, in the hospital, the situation is more worrying. Last week, nearly 219 people died of Covid in France. A figure up for the third consecutive week, which could be explained among other things by the low rate of vaccination of the most fragile. Only 22% of 60-79 year olds have been vaccinated in the last six months. Concerning the over 80s, only three out of 100 received a dose less than 3 months old.
“Lower immunity”
“It is not the number of doses that protects, it is the schedule of doses” that protects, reminds the microphone of Europe 1 Gilles Pialoux, infectiologist. “Currently, there are still a lot of elements to think that people must have had access to a bivalent vaccine, that is to say one that targets both the original strains and the Omicron derivatives” , to be well protected, he continues. “And secondly, there is the question of the duration of the immune response. All the elements converge to say that after six months of a vaccine injection, there is a drop in immunity”, indicates the infectiologist.
The latter hopes that the vaccination delay will be caught up in vulnerable populations to avoid overloading hospitals, in the event of the appearance of a new wave, or a new variant.
