New Apple TV amazes: Better, quieter and cheaper

Everything is getting more expensive at Apple. Is this really true? The iPhone manufacturer is currently proving the opposite of the current trend with the latest generation of the Apple TV 4K. The small set-top box is now not only faster and comes without a fan, but the prices have also been reduced, even here in Europe. Surprising.

New Apple TV 4K: Prices go down, performance goes up

At first glance, the new Apple TV still looks like its predecessor, but this is deceptive. A much faster and more efficient Apple A15 Bionic now works inside. As a result, the new box not only consumes 30 percent less electricity, a fan is now completely superfluous. Ergo: The Apple TV 4K becomes quieter or almost silent and no longer produces any operating noises.

With dimensions of 31 × 93 × 93 mm, the box is also a few millimeters more compact than its predecessor. The reduction in weight is even clearer. The previous model weighed 425 grams, the new version a maximum of 214 grams.

Good to know: In addition to the HDR standard Dolby Vision, which can be seen on Netflix and Disney+, the Apple TV 4K now also supports HDR10+. This is an advantage, especially for content on Amazon Video, as long as you have a compatible TV – this is the case with many high-end models from Samsung, Philips and Panasonic.

Customers then have to pay even less for all of this. The old 4K model cost at least 199 euros from Apple. However, you get the new variant starting at 169 euros. However, the cheapest variant does without Ethernet and has to make do with 64 GB of memory. If you need 128 GB of storage, Gigabit Ethernet and support for the Thread Mesh Networking protocol to be able to connect even more smart home accessories, you have to reach for the larger model. But at 189 euros, this is still cheaper than its predecessor (see Apple). In contrast to iPad, iPhone and Co., not everything at Apple has to be more expensive these days.

What does Apple TV+ actually offer? Let’s see:

Siri Remote now with USB-C

Surely that can be overlooked Missing USB-C cables for Siri Remote. From now on, the remote control is not charged via Lightning but only via USB-C. By the way: It is understandable that Apple is taking the previous Apple TV HD out of the program due to the new pricing – it is no longer up-to-date.

The new Apple TV will then also be delivered with tvOS 16. The set-top box can already be ordered now, and the new Apple TV 4K will be officially available from November 4th.
