New superwoman in the DC Comics universe: Batgirl will finally get her own movie. Young actresses stand in line.

With Robert Pattinson (35) a new Batman is at the door. But who will be the new Batgirl? Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Batman’s companion Commissioner Gordon, is now to get her own film, which is expected to start in 2023 on the streaming service HBO Max.

As part of the DC Extended Universe, Batgirl is one of the most spectacular roles currently available for young actresses. As the usually well-taught one US industry service “Deadline” reports, test recordings have now started. According to “Deadline”, Isabela Merced (20, “Sicario 2”) and Zoey Deutch (26, “Zombieland 2”) are said to have put on the Batgirl’s eye mask as a test.

Two favorites as Batgirl

Two names that “Deadline” also mentions are supposed to according to “The Wrap“the most promising candidates: Haley Lu Richardson (26) and Leslie Grace (26).

Richardson appeared as a supporting actress in the coming-of-age film “The Edge of Seventeen” and as a kidnap victim in the horror thriller “Split”. Leslie Grace is best known as a singer and songwriter. She can be seen in the cinema from July 22, 2021 in the musical adaptation “In the Heights”.

Batgirls incarnations

Batgirl first appeared in the Batman comics in 1961. First there was Betty Kane, Batwoman’s niece, under the cape. 1967 came with Barbara Gordon, the daughter of police officer Gordon, the second and to this day better known incarnation of Batgirl in the comics. In the new film, Barbara Gordon is also said to be the real identity of the Batgirl. In the 1960s, Yvonne Craig (1937-2015) played the bat girl in the TV series, and in 1997 Alicia Silverstone (44) was Batgirl in the film “Batman & Robin”.
