The e-commerce giant eBay is considering integrating cryptocurrencies as a means of payment and could thus drive crypto adpotion.

After the e-commerce giant eBay recently introduced Apple and Google Pay as payment methods on its platform, cryptocurrencies could now follow suit. In an interview with the US television station CNBC yesterday, Monday, CEO Jamie Iannone announced that the trading platform was currently examining an integration. When asked about the growing adoption of crypto values among the population, Iannone said:

We are expanding the types of payments we accept … for that we will continue to consider other options like cryptocurrencies.

Jamie Iannone told CNBC.

In addition, the e-commerce company is looking for a way to make NFT sales easier to process on its trading platform, Iannone reveals.

eBay rumors from 2019 may now come true

As early as 2019 there were rumors about a possible crypto payment integration from eBay. At that time, an advertising banner caused a sensation within the crypto space, on the “virtual currency”. It happens on eBay, ”it said. In order to put a stop to the rumor mill that was boiling up at the time, the company announced at the time: “Cryptocurrency is neither accepted as a means of payment on the eBay platform, nor is it part of our payment strategy.”

However, this negative attitude towards cryptocurrencies now appears to have turned 180 degrees. With over 170 million users worldwide, the integration of Bitcoin and Co. could give the already increasing adoption yet another enormous boost. In addition, with PayPal, Visa and Mastercard, major financial service providers that cooperate with eBay have already accepted cryptocurrencies as a means of payment. Online retailers no longer seem to be able to ignore the growing interest in crypto either.

Just a few days ago, MercadoLibre, the “eBay of South America”, announced the acceptance of Bitcoin and Co. – BTC-ECHO reported.
