New boss – diversity is at the top of the list at the Phoenix Theater

“There are so many social changes that one has to ask oneself: Where do we find our reality of life in the theater at all?” Silke Dörner only has to look out the window at the Theater Phönix on Linzer Wiener Straße to see the diversity of the population – and that’s exactly what she wants to show. She has a lot of new things planned for the coming season. From infrastructural measures such as barrier-free access to energy saving concepts and ticket price adjustments to new formats and new actors: there were 350 applications for five ensemble positions (only Martin Brunnemann remains), diversity was expressly welcomed in the advertisement. Gina Christof, Mirkan Öncel, Gulshan Bano Sheikh, Lara Sienczak and Marius Zernatto were finally included. In the new format “Balcony:Tuesday” there will be discussions and experiments, with “Klimazone” a sensory theater will be premiered, and with “Return to Linz” you want to go out of the theater into the city: “We want to approach people who didn’t feel welcome before,” says Dörner.
