Now, according to information from… According to US industry magazine “Deadline”, a new part of the successful film series is in development at the film studio Universal. Wolfsburg-born, German-Austrian-Swiss director Edward Berger (53) is being discussed to direct the potential sixth “Jason Bourne” film. The 53-year-old was recently able to win an incredible four Oscars with the remake of “All Quiet in the West” (2022), which he directed, including for “Best International Film”.
Will Matt Damon become Jason Bourne again?
According to Deadline, Berger is in negotiations with studio Universal to develop the concept and script for the new Bourne film. He will also eventually take a seat in the director’s chair of the Hollywood action blockbuster if the project receives the green light to start filming. According to information from the US website, a completed script is not yet available at the moment. “Jason Bourne 6” is still in a very early stage of development.
According to Deadline, whether Matt Damon will return to one of his most famous roles will depend on the quality of the script.
Exciting follow-up project to “Nothing New in the West” for Edward Berger
Director Berger would climb another step on the Hollywood career ladder with the new “Bourne” film, should it become a reality. Before his gigantic success at this year’s Oscars, Berger had already directed episodes of the international series “Patrick Melrose” with Benedict Cumberbatch (47) and “Your Honor” with “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston (67).
The “Bourne” film series began in 2002 with Doug Liman’s (58) “The Bourne Identity”. Superstar Matt Damon has played the lead role in four “Bourne” films so far. Only in “The Bourne Legacy” from 2012 did Jeremy Renner (52) take over from Damon. The entire film series has grossed over $1.6 billion at the box office to date.
