New catalog of fines in force: speeders and parking offenders have to pay more

New catalog of fines in force

Speeders and illegal parking lots have to pay more

A dispute flares up between the federal and state governments about punishing offenders with tougher driving bans. This proposal is now off the table. Instead, they agree on higher fines for speeders and illegal parking.

As of today, traffic offenders have to pay higher fines if they are caught. Because after a long political dispute, the new catalog of fines has come into force. It provides for harsher penalties for violating the rules in traffic.

Here is an overview of what applies to drivers, but also to other road users, from today:

  • Anyone who does not form an emergency lane in a traffic jam or even uses it themselves must expect a fine of between 200 and 320 euros and a month’s driving ban.
  • Drivers who park their vehicle under the general no-stopping or parking ban will in future find a ticket under the windshield wiper of up to 55 euros instead of up to 15 euros, as was previously the case.
  • NEW: If you park an e-car charging point or a car sharing space, you will be warned with 55 euros.
  • Parking violations at officially marked fire service entrances or obstruction of rescue vehicles cost up to 100 euros.
  • Unauthorized parking in a parking space for the disabled is charged at 55 euros instead of 35 euros.
  • Truck drivers who do not drive at walking pace when turning right in town have to pay 70 euros.
  • The auto posers are also concerned about money: causing unnecessary noise and avoidable exhaust emissions as well as unnecessary driving back and forth will no longer cost 20 euros, but up to 100 euros.
  • According to the ADAC, it will also become significantly more expensive for speed offenders: The previous warning fines for exceeding up to 20 kilometers per hour will be doubled when the new catalog of fines comes into force. For example, if you exceed a speed limit of up to 10 km / h in an urban area, € 30 instead of € 15, if you exceed a speed of 11-15 km / h € 50 instead of € 25 and between 16 and 20 km / h € 70 instead of € 35.
  • If you drive on sidewalks, bike paths or hard shoulders contrary to the regulations, you can expect a fine of up to 100 euros instead of the previous 25 euros.

The new catalog of fines was preceded by long negotiations between the federal and state governments. Due to a formal error, stricter rules on fines in the new road traffic regulations were suspended last year. As a result, a political dispute arose, especially about the actually planned tougher driving ban rules when driving too fast – but these are not coming. Instead, the federal and state governments agreed to increase fines. The Federal Council unanimously approved the tightening in October.
