A new circular button is being introduced to WhatsApp. However, not everyone sees it yet. We’ll tell you who has access to it and what happens when you press it.

- In selected countries, WhatsApp now displays a button with a circle in the main menu.
- You can use this to access the Meta AI chatbot. This will answer numerous questions for you.

Anyone who opens WhatsApp will soon notice a new button in the chat tab. The symbol is a colorful circle that changes color from blue to purple – it is vaguely reminiscent of the Cortana symbol in Windows 10. And it actually has a similar function.
You can use the button to call up the Meta AI. A chatbot based on the in-house LLM Llama. More precisely on the new version 3 of Llama. The artificial intelligence can answer your questions – such as how far it is from the earth to the moon, how to protect yourself from burnout, etc. It can also generate images or animated GIFs based on your specifications that you can share with friends .
Previously, Meta AI in WhatsApp was only available in the USA, but the chatbot is now also being activated in other countries. According to Meta, these include Australia, Canada, Ghana, Jamaica, Malawi, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The circular button is not yet available in Germany. According to Meta’s own statements, it wants to expand the rollout to other countries. Meta AI is currently only available in English in all countries.
According to the fan blog WABetaInfo, where the button is displayed also varies. Sometimes it can be found above the chat list next to the camera, sometimes more prominently above the button to start a new chat. WhatsApp is currently testing a direct integration of Meta AI into the search bar above the chat list.

Not only can you access the Meta AI using the button, you can also use it in group chats to clarify a dispute, for example. All you have to do is type @MetaAI and the relevant question. This means that MetaAI has no access to the group chat itself.
While WhatsApp is only slowly rolling out Meta AI, such artificial intelligence is already standard in other messengers. Snapchat offers a similar function with My AI.
