New Disney+ releases: films, series and documentaries to watch in streaming in May 2024

Spring is well and truly here on the Disney+ streaming platform, which is adding exciting new films, series and documentaries to its catalog in May 2024. Enough to respond well to its rivals Netflix, Canal+ and Amazon Prime Video.

Before revealing the list of new features on Disney+ in May, here as usual are our choices for the film and series of the month on the service.

The Disney+ series of the month

Doctor Who

The Doctor and Ruby Sunday travel through time and space, fighting for good with extraordinary new friends against formidable enemies.

Showrunner between 2005 and 2010, Russell T. Davis is back at the helm of Doctor Who for this anticipated reboot, which will see the new adventures of the Fifteenth Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa (Sex Education). On the program for these eight new episodes: a visit during the English Regency, in the Abbey Road studios in the 1970s (where the duo will meet the Beatles) and a trip to extraterrestrial worlds.

Starting May 11 on Disney+.

Disney+ movie of the month

Avatar: The Way of Water

A decade after the confrontation with Colonel Quaritch, Jake and Neytiri became the loving parents of Neteyam, Lo’ak and Tuk, but also of Kiri whom they adopted. The couple does everything possible to preserve the unity of the family; When unforeseen events drive them from their home, the Sullys flee across the vast expanses of Pandora to the territory of the Metkayina clan, who live in harmony with the surrounding oceans. They must learn to navigate this dangerous aquatic world and be accepted by their new community.

A real hit at the box office with 2.3 billion dollars worldwide, Avatar: The Way of Water is a unique experience. Visually stunning, opening up its mythology and fleshing out its characters, James Cameron’s film is an adventure in itself. If the three hours of the film may put off some, this return to Pandora is a success and lays the foundations for the next three opuses already planned.
