New distribution center – Amazon now delivers even faster!

On Thursday, the world’s largest online retailer opened the distribution center in Klagenfurt. This is intended to reduce waiting times for the packet. But the employees have their hands full!

The opening of the Amazon distribution center on Klagenfurt’s Südring will take place on Thursday. The groundbreaking for the fourth logistics location in Austria was at the end of October. Project developer Fraktal Development completed the work in record time. Many Carinthian companies such as the Kalles statics office from Klagenfurt, the steel specialist Ferrochema from Spittal or the roofer IAW from Annenheim were active. 400 transporters are expected every day The logistical processes are enormous. 400 vans are expected every night, carting orders from the European logistics hub. They are unloaded, everything is sorted and delivered. The delivery area extends from Klagenfurt and the surrounding area to parts of Styria. First of all, 100 employees are employed. The Amazon chain founded by Jeff Bezos is the largest online retailer in the world with a turnover of 470 billion dollars and is investing 40 million euros in Carinthia. In 2021, 51 locations were opened in Europe and 65,000 jobs were created. Goal: to deliver one day after the order is placed. The distribution center is 7500 square meters. Amazon’s goal is to deliver no later than one day after ordering. The logistics operations will be similar to those in Vienna-Liesing. The packages that arrive contain a code with information for the last mile. The employees scan the codes, then the packages are sorted into differently colored bags. In Vienna, these bags are stacked by the hundreds. When they are full, they are loaded onto vehicles and delivered.
