On Saturday February 12, a 16-year-old boy died after a heavy fall on the large bumps track in Courchevel Moriond, in Savoie.
New drama on the alpine slopes. On Saturday February 12, a 16-year-old teenager lost his life after a fall on the red run of the big bumps in the Courchevel Moriond resort, in Savoie. Discovered unconscious around 10:15 a.m., the young man was quickly taken care of by the trackers, who practiced first aid gestures until the French Air Rescue (SAF) arrived as reinforcements. The skier was then rushed to Chambéry hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries in the hours that followed.
“He was probably going fast, he would have lost control”, said Jean-Yves Pachod, mayor of Courchevel, to our colleagues from France Bleu. “It’s a huge sadness, it’s a dramatic accident while we’re in the middle of school holidays. Skiing is supposed to be a moment of pleasure, of joy, it’s very hard; we obviously think first to this family, to the loved ones of this teenager.”
An investigation entrusted to the Courchevel PGHM
An investigation has been opened by the Albertville prosecutor’s office to determine the circumstances of the accident. According to the first elements collected by the mountain units of the National Gendarmerie (PGHM) of Courchevel, the teenager was on vacation with his family and used to ski with his father. It is not known for the moment if the latter was present during the fall of his son.
This is the third fatal accident recorded in Savoie since the start of the winter season. Saturday December 15, a 5-year-old girl died in Flaine (Haute-Savoie) after being hit by a skier in the middle of a ski lesson. A month later, on January 19, the French comedian Gaspard Ulliel also died in a collision while skiing on a blue run in La Rosière (Savoie).
