The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance has announced a series of new initiatives to take the partnership between the three manufacturers to the next level.
This includes in particular close collaboration between Renault and Nissan regarding the future Micra.
The electric Nissan Micra “made in France”
It’s official, the future of the Alliance will allow Renault and Nissan to launch new key projects in Latin America, India and Europe. We will thus be able to discover a new pick-up developed by Renault Group and shared with Nissan in Argentina, new SUVs and a “Nissan version” of the Renault Triber in India, not to mention two new ASX and Colt vehicles in Europe, in addition to the future electric Micra.
This collaboration will also allow Nissan to invest up to 15% in Ampere, Renault Group’s EV & Software entity in Europe, with the aim of becoming a strategic investor. Renault Group explains: “ Beyond 2026, Nissan and Renault Group will also explore opportunities for collaboration on the next generation of C-segment electric vehicles. »
A cousin of the future Renault 5
At the head of Renault, Luca de Meo insisted on confirming that this future electric Nissan Micra, which will be “ made in France “, will share around 80% of the parts of the future electric Renault 5. Renault’s small electric city car, inspired by the iconic model first launched in the 1970s, is expected in 2024.
Thanks to the Alliance, Nissan would save around 40% on the development costs of its future electric Micra, developed from the CMF-BEV platform. This model should thus display many points in common with the small R5, with production overseen by one of the Renault group’s ElectriCity factories.
In addition, beyond 2026, Nissan and Renault Group will continue to share their technologies on European vehicles, including with regard to the potential use of a common 800 V architecture. We are now waiting to know at what prices the new Renault 5 and Nissan Micra “zero emission” versions will be displayed.
