New exceptional images of the wreck of the Titanic unveiled in video

A new video taken in very high quality, showing the wreckage of the Titanic, was unveiled on Thursday. The explorers in charge of the mission explained that new details were visible.

It is almost 4000 meters deep, in total darkness, in the middle of the North Atlantic. For 110 years, the wreck of the Titanic, steeped in a dramatic story that became legendary following the release of James Cameron’s film, has fascinated explorers. And while we thought we knew everything, a new video unveiled this week allows us to discover new details. For the first time, the wreck of the ocean liner that sank in April 1912 was filmed in 8K quality, the highest definition currently available. The adventurers of the “OceanGate Expeditions” group posted the video on Youtube.

In a press release taken up by CBS News, the explorers explain that these images make it possible to zoom in on precise places of the wreck and to find in particular new structures of the boat, hitherto never seen. The “colors are also phenomenal,” it added. “At the start of the video you can see the crane used to deploy the huge 15 tonne anchor still located on the wreck’s deck, and the shackle which was originally attached to the main mast which now stands collapsed,” commented one of the mission’s divers. Another added: “I had never seen the name of the anchor maker, ‘Noah Hingley & Sons Ltd.’, on the port anchor. I’ve been studying the wreck for decades and have done several dives, and I don’t recall seeing any other images showing this level of detail.” The one-minute video also shows the dramatic decay of the ship, which could be gone altogether by 2030.

“The 47,000 tons of the ship will end up in the ocean”

For several years, experts have been announcing the future fate of the wreck of the Titanic. Yet when discovered in 1985 in the North Atlantic, the ship was remarkably well preserved 3.8 kilometers below the surface of the sea. The pressure and lack of light had made the wreck inhospitable to the majority of beings. alive, allowing a slower corrosion than usual. But today, the carcass of the one thought to be unsinkable is in danger. It was first the wood of the Titanic that was attacked by marine organisms, exposing its metal hull. In 2017, a study revealed by the BBC recalled that the majority of wrecks are doomed to disappear, eaten by bacteria or damaged by corrosion due to salt. “The 47,000 ton ship will end up in the ocean. At some point, it will be found in the body of marine animals or plants. The Titanic will recycle”, was it written.

In October 2020, experts, commissioned to decide on an expedition to bring the Titanic’s radio to the surface, had also reported on the “significant deterioration” of the boat, particularly in the area above and around the sea. Marconi room, where the telegraph is located. This room was on the boat deck, in the same space divided into three areas: the command bridge, the officers’ rooms and the quiet room that housed the radio. According to the investigation carried out by the justice, each zone was separated by wooden walls which are now dissolved. “OceanGate” has announced that the new images taken in high definition will now be used to monitor the state of the ship. “With the help of scientists, the video will also allow the identification of species observed on and around the Titanic, and archaeologists will be able to document in more detail elements of the wreckage and the debris field around it,” said said the group. ‘OceanGate’ is preparing for a new expedition which should begin in May 2023. Nearly 1500 people died on the Titanic after it struck an iceberg on April 14, 1912. The ship was heading for New York after leaving Southampton, United Kingdom -United.
