Google is implementing new features in Maps for this end of the year. The application will take on a whole new dimension with the arrival of augmented reality. Users will be able to locate themselves in space thanks to Live View by directing their telephone in order to discover the points of interest which surround them. Contextual information will then appear in real time on everyone’s screen, from street names to vending machines to restaurants. The Live View feature will be available on Android and iOS starting next week. It will, for the moment, only be usable in major cities around the world such as London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Tokyo and… Paris.

Maps goes electric

Google Maps will also make it possible to locate the various charging stations for electric cars around you. If they were already indicated in the application, Google makes access to information easier. It is now possible, by typing “charging stations” in the search bar, to select a specific type of socket that corresponds to that of the vehicle. Google has also added a “fast charging” filter in order to display charging stations with a minimum of 50kW on the map.

More accessibility

Maps now makes it possible to display places accessible to wheelchairs as well as places without stairs in order to facilitate the movement of people with disabilities. While the feature was already launched in 2020, it was only available in certain countries. From today, the whole world has access to it. To activate it, you must then go to the settings, then “Accessibility settings” in order to activate the accessible places. Thanks to this, a small logo appears during the research, the details of the facilities are then available by going to the site page. It is also possible to enter the accessibility of a place that has not yet been marked as accessible.
