The owners of connected watches under Wear OS will receive highly anticipated new features by the end of this year 2022.
For the past few months, Samsung and Google have joined forces in order to weigh even more on the connected watch market.
Google and Samsung hand in hand for the future of Wear OS
The Korean manufacturer has indeed abandoned its home operating system Tizen to adopt Wear OS, the Google system dedicated to connected watches.
According to Samsung, this partnership has allowed Wear OS to see its user base increase threefold. The two companies therefore wish to continue to work together to nibbling market share in this disputed sector.
Samsung had also invited Google to its Unpacked event this Wednesday, August 10, during which the very latest Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 were presented. The search engine took advantage of its presence on stage to make some announcements about the future of Wear OS and announce the arrival of several new features.
New features that will further cut the cord between the connected watch and the smartphone
Google first quickly introduced a new interface for the Play Store on Wear OS. The user experience will be revised to offer more on-screen application recommendations, collections of apps to discover and the most popular software at a given time. The Play Store for connected watches will finally look more like its equivalent for smartphones and allow users to discover new applications directly from their wrist.
Wear OS will also soon offer a brand new version of Google Maps which will finally offer the possibility of creating routes from your wrist. Today, a connection with a smartphone is mandatory to start a journey, but fortunately, this will no longer be the case in a few weeks.
Finally, Google announced that by the end of the year, the SoundCloud and Deezer applications will arrive on Wear OS. They will thus give users the possibility of listening to music offline by downloading their albums and playlists to the storage of their connected watch. Spotify will also be in the spotlight, with integration with Google Assistant that will allow you to play your favorite titles through a simple voice command.
