  • TV manufacturer Sony has released a firmware update for 2021 Bravia XR and KD models.
  • Firmware version 6.5660 brings not only a variable refresh rate (VRR) but also 4K and Dolby Atmos compatibility for Apple Airplay.
  • Some Sony Bravia models that can be updated carry out the update automatically.

In the product selection from electronics giant Sony, “Bravia” identifies the TV sets – including high-end models with OLED displays and also simpler LED TVs that are already available in stores for significantly lower prices. You can recognize the premium models by the abbreviation “XR”, the cheaper representatives bear the designation “KD”.

Sony is now releasing an update for the firmware of the Bravia TVs, which, among other things, enables a variable refresh rate, which is important for gamers. The TV set then automatically adapts to the timing specified by the PC or game console. For Sony’s Playstation 5, however, the VRR update should not yet work on the in-house TV models.

Sony Bravia firmware update: Which devices are affected?

All Bravia models built in 2021 should get the new firmware 6.5660, which, in addition to the VRR patch, also contains a 4K and Dobly Atmos upgrade for Apple Airplay. To check the status of the firmware of the Bravia TV in question, just press the “Help” button on the TV remote control – the version ID should then be visible in the top right of the subsequent menu.
