New for all Sparkasse customers: what to expect from ATMs with immediate effect

There is an important innovation for customers at the Sparkasse. It is now also much easier to withdraw money from the bank’s ATMs using a smartphone. You can read how this works here.

Savings Bank customers now have even more freedom when withdrawing money. As reported by the “Caschys Blog” page, the company is starting contactless pick-up via smartphone. Previously, Sparkasse customers were already able to get their money contactless via Girocard at some machines. In the future, smartphones should be sufficient for this.

The process takes place on Android smartphones via the “Mobile Payment” app. iPhone users use the Apple Wallet. If you are then at an ATM with NFC function, you have to unlock the device, start the corresponding app and hold the smartphone to the marked spot on the machine.

The NFC interface of the ATM now reads the digital card in the smartphone and allows the option “Withdraw money” on the machine. Nevertheless, the PIN of the card is still required for the process at the end. Withdrawing money without contact is therefore not possible. Nevertheless, some Sparkasse customers will probably prefer this option because they don’t have to take their wallet with them.

The step taken by the Sparkasse is not only a relief for its own customers, but also a signal to the competition. Only recently did the Volks- und Raiffeisenbanken decide to stop withdrawing money via smartphone. The savings bank may also be targeting customers from the competition who are now missing such a feature.
