New for the big ones – the Stellantis platform carries electric and combustion engines

Stellantis has presented its new “STLA Large” platform, which will be used worldwide as the basis for future vehicles in the D and E segments. Interesting: It can not only carry different vehicle sizes and types, but also all drives from combustion engines to electric vehicles.

The platform’s great flexibility allows engineers and designers to adjust the wheelbase, overall length, overall width and height as well as ground clearance, so that a wide range of vehicle types, from conventional cars to crossovers to SUVs, can be built on it. Maybe even Ram-type pick-ups. As a BEV-based platform, it was also designed and developed with the option of 400-volt and 800-volt electrical architectures; corresponding batteries could be charged at up to 4.5 kWh per minute, it says, with a charging capacity of 270 kW. The capacity is currently between 85 and 118 kilowatt hours. This would allow limousines to achieve a total range of around 800 kilometers. The first generation of drive components is intended to deliver acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in the two-second range. On the other hand, the platform is also designed for combustion engines and plug-in hybrids. In addition, future battery technologies should be easy to implement. Initially, STLA Large will be used in the USA by Dodge and Jeep. Brands such as Alfa Romeo, Chrysler and Maserati will follow in the next step. Eight vehicles with the new platform are planned for 2024 to 2026. One of the first will be the already announced Jeep Wagoneer. (aum)
