New home – Gut Aiderbichl saves six horses from Fohlenmarkt

Six foals have now moved into Gut Aiderbichl in Henndorf. They come directly from a foal market. What would have happened to them otherwise is extremely doubtful.

Fate was kind to Nuria, Mella, Pia, Herzog, Zafar and Alfred. The six foals are now at home in Henndorf at Gut Aiderbichl. They probably escaped certain death. Because for many foals from markets, the final stop is the slaughterhouse. Colts in particular often have bad cards. They are forced into overcrowded vans and often have to stand for painfully long periods of time. Many suffer serious injuries or become infected with diseases. “We would like to see this foal rescue as a symbolic act. We live in a world where animals are still traded as mere commodities. “It can’t go on like this,” says Dieter Ehrengruber, managing director and foundation board member of Gut Aiderbichl. Animal rights activists have been fighting to save the foals for years. For Gut Aiderbichl it was not the first time that the animal welfare organization bought foals at auction. The story of Fohlen Kathi has already made many people think. Michael Aufhauser bought foal number 53 at a horse slaughter market in 2004. Gut Aiderbichl was also able to save Nonius from being transported to the butcher when he was six months old in 2019.
