New iMac, iPad Pro, AirTag … The summary of new Apple products

Instead of a traditional “keynote” in front of the press, it is in a promotional video broadcast this Tuesday, April 20 at 7 p.m. as Apple CEO Tim Cook showcased several new Apple brand products, strolling the leafy alleys of the company’s HQ in Cupertino.

The announcement of a new Apple desktop has captured the attention of Internet viewers: a fundamentally redesigned iMac, which will be available mid-May from 1,450 euros.

New iMac

Its predecessor, the iMac launched in 2012, surprised at the time with its thin edges and rounded back. This new computer model, whose components nestle directly behind the screen and which does not need an additional central unit, contrasts with its completely flat back. The 2021 iMac has the shape of an ordinary flat screen, even if it is clad in aluminum, which should allow to gain a few inches of depth on a desk.

Resolutely cheerful, this model will be available in a selection of seven vibrant colors complemented by a pure white colourway. The color extends to the colored aluminum of the keyboard and mouse.

This new iMac has a 24-inch screen, Retina quality. Its equipment is modernized: the screen constantly changes its colors to adapt to the ambient lighting of the room, thanks to the Truetone sensor. According to Apple, the webcam, microphones and speakers will also improve in quality. The display has a fingerprint reader that makes it easier to wake up the computer.

The bowels of the new iMac will host a new core, the M1 processor which Apple claims speeds up video editing and photo editing, among other creative applications. However, this processor is not yet compatible with all the programs that the old iMac can run: some games and a handful ofcreative applications, on Apple computers already equipped with M1 chips, experience hiccups or do not work at all.

New iPad Pro

Apple took advantage of this pre-recorded conference to also present a new iPad Pro, the most expensive model in its line of tablets, which looks like it’s wrong to its predecessor.

Presented as faster, because also equipped with an M1 processor, it incorporates a webcam that sees very wide, capable of following a subject from left to right during a videoconference, while zooming in on it so that it can be seen well. The 12.9-inch model, with the largest screen, sees its brightness and contrast improve thanks to miniled technology.

Finally, Apple presented a little cookie that you can slip into a bag or on a key ring: the AirTag will permanently indicate its position on the mapping application of its owner’s iPhone. The size of a coin, it will allow you to find lost belongings, a bit like the little “trackers” of the Tile brand which work with Android smartphones as well as with iPhones.
