A little over a month ago, Bandai-Namco announced that the next Dragon Ball FighterZ characters would be C-21 in a lab coat. This announcement had a little disturbed the fans, who wondered why especially this character when other members of the Dragon Ball universe are much more demanded by the community, and if it would not finally be just an alternative skin of the C -21 already available in game. With the published images, things are certain: C-21 in blouse will be an original character, and apparently her tic would be to touch her glasses (she touches them 2 out of 4 images).
Between these images, and other revelations having taken place in the magazine Jump in Japan, the android 21 in scientific uniform will have many of its own moves. Too little information has been given for us to get a clear idea of its gameplay, but a line of thought is still available. Saying she’s great at absorbing energy, it’s entirely possible that FighterZ’s gluttonous antagonist has a special move that allows her to steal half or even an entire bar from her opponents. This will echo his steal of technique in his classic form. This mechanic is present in many other DB games, in particular those integrating the C-19 and C-20 cyborgs of which it is the signature. It can take different forms including direct absorption via a command grab or absorption in response to a kikoha/an energy projection, even if objectively only the first mechanism seems really viable given the gameplay of FighterZ. It is very rare for a player to snitch a special move and these are often used to finish/extend a combo, not to open guard, which would render the second option useless except on very rare occasions.
If this announcement can make fans wait, it does not completely satisfy them. The studio has not communicated if a new season is planned for the game, nor even the precise release date of the new fighter. The most optimistic theorize, however, that FighterZ is just waiting for the official resumption of animated episodes of Dragon Ball Super to launch the next season, which will integrate the future antagonists of this part of the license. The arrival of this new version of C-21 can also be interpreted in two different ways (light spoiler attention on the capacities of a future DBS antagonist in the next lines):
- either this theory is true, and this new C-21 will be a test to implement a balanced mechanic of energy stealing, one of the essential characteristics of Moro, the antagonist of the arc following that of the tournament of power in DBS .
- either this theory is wrong, then this mechanic available on C-21 will be exclusive to him and Moro will never appear in DBFZ.
Anyway, we will still have to wait to be really fixed on the future of the game.
