For this 2022 edition, Huawei is abandoning AMD Ryzens to replace them with Core Alder Lake. In addition, the new version of the Matebook D16 goes to a 16:10 panel.

After a successful MateBook 16 launched a few weeks ago, Huawei’s Matebook 16 series is once again in the limelight, this time with the Matebook 16S and D16 headlining. But, while the first laptop still has a Ryzen processor, its cousins are moving away from AMD to see Intel and adopt Alder Lake mobile processors.

Goodbye Ryzen 5, hello Core i5 and Core i7

Less premium than the 16S, the Matebook D16 vintage 2022 offers at best up to the Core i7-12700H (14 cores and 20 threads, with 6 Golden Cove cores and 8 Gracemont cores). The other two references offered are the Intel Core i5-12500H and i5-12450H, two 12 cores and 16 threads (4 Golden Cove cores, 8 Gracemont cores). Huawei has configured the processors with a TDP of 40W.

This is a notable changeover, since the MateBook D16 of 2021 mobilizes an AMD chip, in this case the Ryzen 5 4600H with 6 cores and 12 threads.

A 16:10 screen

The other main change concerns the screen. It’s still a 16-inch IPS panel. Only, it adopts the 16:10 format against 16:9 for the previous edition of the PC.

The definition thus goes from 1,920 x 1,080 to 1,920 x 1,200 pixels, i.e. a resolution slightly higher at 142 PPI against 137 PPI.

On the memory side, while Huawei offered the MateBook D16 2021 with 16 GB DDR4, its successor inherits 8 or 16 GB, if we rely on the specifications given on the brand’s website. For storage, status quowith a 512GB NVMe PCIe SSD.

Finally, the battery now offers a capacity of 60 Wh, and no longer 56 Wh. The charger remains a 65 W unit. Note also the addition of two additional microphones, bringing their number to four.

The Huawei MateBook D16 will go on sale from July 12. However, the computer is now available for pre-order. Additionally, the company is giving away a 23.8-inch AD80 monitor for orders placed before July 12. The model with a Core i5 is trading from 999.99 euros, and that with Core i7, from 1,299.99 euros.
