The dance style Breaking will celebrate its Olympic premiere at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. ZDF accompanied two breakers in their everyday lives.

B-Girls and B-Boys are the name given to the dancers whose hearts beat for breaking. At the upcoming Summer Games in In Paris, the urban dance style, also known as breakdancing, will be an Olympic sport for the first time. Germany is also sending a team into the race for medals. As part of the ZDF program “37°”, Maike Conway (57) has made a documentary about the sport, which will be released in cinemas on June 20th.

“2Unbreakable” follows the two main actors Joanna, “BGirl Joanna”, and Serhat, “BBoy Said”, in their everyday lives as breakers. While the 25-year-old from Dresden is still fighting to get into the national squad in the documentary and is giving everything for her big dream, Serhat has already made this leap. The 37-year-old from Munich gave up his studies for breaking and now lives solely from dancing.

Breaking has a “special energy”

For director Conway, “2Unbreakable”, the first feature film from the ZDF series “37°”, is a dream come true. “Ever since I started making films, it has been my dream to make a documentary about dancers. Battles in particular convey a special energy and joy of life. My interest has always been in getting to know the lives of dancers and thus the dancers themselves,” she is quoted as saying in the broadcaster’s press release.

The breaking competitions will take place on August 9th and 10th in Paris on the Place de la Concorde. In 60 seconds, the 16 dancers must convince the jury in solo duels with “technique, versatility, creativity, personality, performance and musicality”, it says. on the Olympic team pageFor Germany, Pauline Nettesheim (31) and Sanja Jilwan Rasul (31) made it to the Olympics.
