New Oscar scandal: Did Zack Snyder win the Audience Award thanks to bots?

The Wrap website reveals that Zack Snyder would have won the Public Oscar thanks to computer bots…

The Academy of Oscars inaugurated this year the People’s Choice Award and the Most Acclaimed Moment Award to better represent popular works.

Two awards won last March by director Zack Snyder as his re-editing of the DC Comics film Zack Snyder’s Justice League received the award for most acclaimed sequence, while his horror film Army of the Dead surprised everyone by triumphing in the Audience Oscar category.

Voting was done via the hashtag #OscarsFanFavorite. The film that won the most votes won the statuette.

Zack Snyder fans are very active on social networks as evidenced by the popularity of #RestoreTheSnyderVerse, the aim of which is to push Warner Bros to relaunch the saga initially planned by the filmmaker.

Cheating at the Oscars?

But the website The Wrapreveals today that Zack Snyder would have won thanks to computer bots … The latter would have indeed been used to vote en masse in favor of the films of the filmmaker.

Based on the Tweet Binder analytics tracking tool, the site claims that the most active participants were actually web programs that cast thousands of votes.

David Kirsch, professor at the University of Maryland, specifies for his part that these accounts “don’t look like they were created by human beings“. However, the latter does not claim that all these accounts are bots.

The filmmaker has not yet reacted and it is still unknown what the decision of the Academy will be if it turns out that these accusations are confirmed.
