New Peugeot e-208: here are the differences with the first version (range, power, consumption, etc.)

In Spain, Peugeot has already launched the new e-208 with almost 400 km of autonomy. The opportunity to learn a little more about its technical data sheet and its price.

Article updated on November 3, 2022: In France, Peugeot’s online configurator still shows the old e-208 with 362 km of autonomy on the WLTP mixed cycle. But on the Spanish site, you can configure the e-208 in version 2023, with its increased autonomy thanks to a new battery, but also with its more efficient and powerful engine.

For 36,800 euros, it is possible to order the Peugeot e-208 in GT version only, with its 115 kW (156 hp) engine. It is therefore the 2023 version, with its battery with a useful capacity of 48 kWh, against 46 kWh on the 2022 version.

Peugeot Spain announces 398 km of autonomy and a combined WLTP consumption of 14.5 kWh / 100 km. Where have the promised 400 km of range gone? Either Peugeot voluntarily omitted these 2 km during its announcement, or the GT version consumes more because of its 17-inch rims against 16 inches on the other versions. We have contacted Peugeot and will update this article if necessary.

Regarding the price, Peugeot electric cars are cheaper in Spain than in France. In France, it will therefore be necessary to expect a price of around 38,000 euros, the same price as the current one, sold for 38,400 euros in the GT version.

Original article, September 27, 2022 : Peugeot brings some evolutions to its e-208, which offers itself an autonomy as well as an increase in power. It thus beats the Renault Zoé, displayed at 395 kilometers.

There’s something new from the Stellantis group! Indeed, a few weeks earlier, Peugeot lifted the veil on the electric version of its 308, also available in SW version. Yesterday, DS presented its restyled DS 3, still available in E-Tense version and offering some technical improvements. Today, it is therefore the turn of the Peugeot e-208 to make people talk about it and to evolve smoothly.

Increased autonomy

Remember, last August, we were talking about a small revolution in the range of the electric city car. In addition to the addition of a new Like finish in the catalog of this version, it is above all the technical developments that challenged us. TheArgus then relayed information from an internal document, evoking an increase in its autonomy, as well as its power.

A few weeks later, the brand confirms all this, in a detailed press release. After enjoying a small increase in autonomy of 6.5%, the equivalent of 22 kilometers at the end of last year, the e-208 sees this time a little bigger.

As the brand explains, this time it is up 10.5%. An increase which then allows the one that was the best-selling electric car in Europe last June to travel up to 400 kilometers on a single charge according to the WLTP mixed cycle (approval still in progress). Thus, the star of the brand has a small head start on the Renault Zoé, which peaks at 395 kilometers in the combined cycle.

But if the e-208 makes such a leap forward, it is partly thanks to the arrival of a new battery, whose gross capacity increases from 50 to 51 kWh. The useful capacity then climbs from 46 to 48.1 kWh. Consumption has also been reduced, to be displayed at 12 kWh on average.

A more powerful and more economical engine

But that’s not all, because other developments have also been made to Peugeot’s electric bestseller. It also offers a brand new engine, called M3, provided by Emotors, a joint venture created by Stellantis and the Japanese firm Nidec. This is then the same one that already equips the new Peugeot e-308 as well as the restyled DS 3 E-Tense.

The power goes from 100 to 115 kW, the equivalent of 136 to 156 horsepower, while the maximum torque is displayed at 260 Nm. On the other hand, nothing to report on the charging side, which remains at 7.4 kW of series and which can be increased to 11 kW thanks to an optional charger. The maximum direct current power is still 100 kW, allowing to go from 20 to 80% in less than 25 minutes, which was already the case before.

Available from 2023

Several improvements had already been made at the end of 2021, including the arrival of a heat pump coupled to a humidity sensor installed at the top of the windshield, as well as new 16-inch tires reducing friction. The gear ratio of the reducer had also been revised, making it possible to optimize autonomy on expressways.

Peugeot announces that this new version will be officially launched sometime next year. Prices could then rise slightly, while the Peugeot e-208 currently starts from 33,000 euros in its entry-level Like finish.
