Sony is launching a new model for PlayStation Plus on June 22nd in Germany. In the future, players will have the choice between three subscriptions.

The new PlayStation Plus is here. Sony has now changed its subscription model for gamers in Germany and is merging it with PlayStation Now. Interested parties can find out here what will happen to their old subscription, how much members will have to pay in the future and what additional options the new, three-tier model offers.

What tiers is the new PlayStation Plus divided into?

In the future, players will choose one of three variants. Sony divides PlayStation Plus into an “Essential”, “Extra” and “Premium” subscription. The “Essential” package is the same as the previous membership. According to Sony, subscribers receive two free downloadable games per month, access to online multiplayer, exclusive discounts and cloud storage for their saved games.

In addition to the functions mentioned, the “Extra” membership also includes a games catalog with PS4 and PS5 games, which according to Sony should include up to 400 titles that gamers can download. Among other things, “Death Stranding” or the “Death Stranding Director’s Cut”, “God of War”, “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales”, “Horizon Zero Dawn”, “Demon’s Souls” and “Returnal” should be there.

The “Premium” subscription includes all the features of the other two models and up to 340 additional games – including titles from the original PlayStation, PS2 and PSP available for download or streaming, as well as original PS3 games via cloud streaming . Also included is additional access to PS, PS2, PSP and PS4 games via cloud streaming on PS4, PS5 and PC. There are also time-limited test versions of more recent games.

How much do the different subscriptions cost?

With all three subscription models, players can choose between monthly, quarterly and annual payments. The “Essential” subscription costs EUR 8.99 per month, EUR 24.99 per quarter and EUR 59.99 per year. The “Extra” package, on the other hand, is 13.99 euros, 39.99 euros and 99.99 euros respectively. The “Premium” subscription costs 16.99 euros, 49.99 euros or 119.99 euros.

Will my current subscription be carried over?

Any existing PlayStation Plus subscription will automatically convert to an Essential membership. Anyone who has previously had a PlayStation Now subscription will now become a “Premium” member. Sony will start the transition on June 22nd, but it may take until the end of June 23rd for the changes to take effect.

Essential members can also upgrade to any of the other models. For the remaining time of the current membership, however, a fee will be charged to compensate for the difference.
