New Prime Minister: Disagreements deepen in Blois between PS executives

While the Élysée promises to “move quickly” to finally choose a Prime Minister after 55 days of political crisis, the Cazeneuve hypothesis continues to agitate the left, like the Socialist Party, more than ever crossed by divergences of strategies. In addition to the wait-and-see attitude within the executive, a month and a half after the resignation of the Attal government, there was a resurgence of tensions in the PS during its summer days in Blois.

“We must create a majority of non-censorship”

For several days, Olivier Faure has been assuring that the PS is ready to dialogue and make compromises, except that the First Secretary of the party refused to return to discuss at the Elysée, after the head of state dismissed the candidate of the New Popular Front Lucie Castets. His opponents within his party are demanding that he be “constructive”, and not close the door to new discussions with Emmanuel Macron, in order to form “a government that carries left-wing policies”.

They thus assert themselves as “the majority among activists” – but not in party bodies – and demand that the PS “now hold the line that we hold”, explained to AFP one of the opponents, the mayor of Rouen Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol.

“We must create a majority of non-censorship,” the president of Occitanie Carole Delga also asked the press, while the mayor of Vaulx-en-Velin Hélène Geoffroy deplored that the leadership had “chosen the LFI strategy by choosing sound and fury.” Among them is also Karim Bouamrane, mayor of Saint-Ouen and rising figure of the PS, whose profile has caught the attention of the Elysée. On TF1, he said he was “capable” of becoming Prime Minister by building “compromises.”
