A new PS5 model has emerged. At irregular intervals, Sony revises the design of its consoles. There don’t seem to be any major changes this time – but the new revision could still bring a small improvement.
New PS5 revision overhauls WiFi & Bluetooth hardware
In the summer of 2021, Sony launched a new revision of the PS5, and now the next revision seems to be pending. Apparently, the company has registered a slightly customized PS5 version under the model number CFI-1200. But what changes with the new variant? According to the reports, Sony has made some changes to the console’s wireless gear – i.e. on the WLAN and Bluetooth hardware of the PS5.
The new PS5 version has already been accepted and certified by Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications – this certifies that that the device corresponds to the current technical standards (Source: VGC).
This could mean that the new PS5 models may have slightly better connection quality – but it is also possible that Sony only replaced the components in order to react to the hardware crisis and to be able to keep production capacities stable or even increase them .
The new PS5 version currently only seems to be in circulation in Japan – it is not yet clear if and when it will also find its way to the rest of the world. However, one thing is certain: There will probably not be a noticeable increase in performance with the new PS5 model. This will most likely only happen with the launch of the PS5 Pro – and players will probably have to wait at least another year or two for that.

However, what could still happen before that is a replacement of the PS5’s console chip. An AMD SoC, which is manufactured using the 7nm manufacturing process, is currently working inside the console. For some time, however, the rumor mill has been assuming that Sony will soon be using a 6nm chip for the PS5, which will work more energy efficiently.
This would not only reduce the power consumption of the console, but could also reduce heat generation, which could lower the console volume under load.
However, it is still unclear whether Sony is really planning such a big change. There is no official confirmation from the company yet. We will keep you up to date.
