Chancellor plans relief for citizens

Rising prices and high inflation are currently causing more and more people in Germany to have less money in their pockets. To counteract this, Chancellor Olaf Scholz has Package of measures with a total volume of 30 billion euros announced. In addition to many reliefs, however, it will soon be more expensive for gas customers.

According to Scholz, there will be one flat-rate heating fee that should apply “in a way permanently”. There should be special grants in this area for students. However, the Chancellor is still reluctant to give further details.

It is similar with the housing benefit reform to be carried out at the beginning of next year. The group of households entitled to housing benefit is to be expanded here. Pensioners in particular should benefit from this (source: rbb24).

Also the Farewell to Hartz IV getting closer. As already agreed in the coalition agreement between the SPD, Greens and FDP, the basic security benefit will be replaced by a “citizen’s allowance”. According to Scholz, the reform will be implemented “definitely by January 1 of next year”. It should lead to substantial relief for those who “have the least”. Within the coalition, however, there is still a dispute about possible easing of sanctions. The SPD would like to implement a six-month “period of trust”.
