Moscow says it shot down three Ukrainian drones in Kaluga region

Russia said on Wednesday morning, August 16, that it had shot down three Ukrainian drones in the Kaluga region located southwest of Moscow, against a backdrop of increasing attacks of this type targeting the Russian capital.

Around 5 a.m. local time (4 a.m. in France), an attempted attack on kyiv using “three unmanned aerial vehicles (…) in the Kaluga region was foiled »reported the Ministry of Defense on Russian Telegram. “All drones were detected and destroyed in time by Russian air defense systems”said the ministry, which added that the attack caused no casualties or damage.

The devices were neutralized “in the south of the region” of Kaluga, announced the local governor, Vladislav Chapcha on Telegram.

Attack drone incursions into Russian-controlled territories have increased in recent weeks, particularly to target the capital. This is at least the fifth time Russia says it has shot down drones in the Kaluga region, following similar attacks on August 3 and 7, as well as Thursday and Saturday.

Seven Ukrainian drones were neutralized on August 3 without causing any casualties or damage, according to Russian defense and the regional governor.

At the end of July and the beginning of August, other devices had been destroyed above the business district of Moscow, in the west of the Russian capital, causing slight damage to the facade of two towers. In May, two drones were shot down over the Kremlin. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was pleased at the end of July that “War is coming to the territory of Russia”.
