With the Galaxy A33 and the Galaxy A53, Samsung has launched two mid-range smartphones that offer pretty good features. While there’s no technical reason for this, the cheaper Galaxy A33 is missing a really practical feature.
Samsung Galaxy A33 without always-on display
The joy was great when the Galaxy A33 5G was officially presented. Compared to its predecessor, Samsung has introduced many improvements. Samsung has upgraded the display in particular. There is now a Super AMOLED panel with 90 Hz. The display and brightness are fine, but something was omitted in the software, as I noticed during the test of the Galaxy A33. There is no always-on display.
The Always-On-Display function has replaced the notification LED on smartphones with an OLED screen. It is particularly useful for smartphones with an in-display fingerprint sensor, as you can see where you have to put your finger to unlock the smartphone. And that’s exactly what the Samsung Galaxy A33 lacks, although the Galaxy A53 (to test) has this function.
There is actually no technical reason for this. Samsung also installs a Super AMOLED display in the Galaxy A33 and could implement this feature without problems. A conscious decision was made against this, as the comparison page from Samsung clearly shows:
Already in the first point you can see that the always-on display is simply missing on the Galaxy A33 5G. The display of the Galaxy A53 is also a bit brighter with up to 800 nits, but that was already known.

In our opinion, there should be absolutely nothing technically wrong with offering an always-on display on the Galaxy A33. Samsung simply decided against it. That’s a shame, because the smartphone, which is actually excellent, lacks a practical function that I miss at least every day.
