New shooter wants to revolutionize the battle royale genre

A huge map, up to 150 participants and in the end only one player or team can win. The battle royale concept is popular but now old hat. A new studio wants to change that and take the genre to the next level in the coming year.

Will This Battle Royale Game Change Everything?

Battle Royale 2.0 – this is how the new multiplayer shooter Off The Grid describes itself. Behind the title is perhaps the most ambitious Battle Royale project of recent years.

So far there is only a short one teaser trailerbut it already contains some interesting information:

What do you need to know about Off The Grid?

With Gunzilla, not only is a completely new studio responsible for the third-person shooter, but the director is none other than Hollywood director Neill Blomkamp out of. The director is best known for the sci-fi films District 9 and Elysium.

According to Blomkamp, Off The Grid is supposed to be a content depth that no Battle Royale game has been able to offer before. The new shooter will not only be a pure PvP game, but will also offer PvE content that has a significant impact on the story.

On the official site, developer Gunzilla describes it as follows:

“Off The Grid is a battle royale like no other before it and aims to advance the genre through a strong emphasis on narrative progression, giving players the freedom to control the story and gameplay with every decision they make , to influence.”

What that means in concrete terms, however, is left open by the developer. A gameplay trailer will probably bring more clarity here. But it may still take a while until then. Gunzilla currently only has a release date the year 2023 specified.

The many job advertisements on the Gunzilla website also suggest that the young studio is still under construction.
