New SP parliamentary group presidium – double leadership Marti-Bendahan goes to the Federal Palace – News

With the SP, for the first time, a parliamentary group in the Bundestag has a dual leadership. The only contenders are Samira Marti from Basel and Samuel Bendahan from Vaud. So your election in just under two weeks is a formality.

The two economists, Samira Marti and Samuel Bendahan, will be at the head of the SP group in two weeks. The fact that it is precisely this duo also has to do with the seating arrangement in the National Council.

Legend:

Samira Marti and Samuel Bendahan will be the new duo at the top of the SP faction.

“We’ve been sitting next to each other for a few years and also work very closely together in the Economic Commission,” says the 29-year-old. “We also noticed in other dossiers that we have a lot of synergies, that we get along well and have found trust in one another.”

We are very happy to work as a team.

This is also confirmed by the 43-year-old Bendahan. “We have very, very strong trust and we also have very complementary skills and networks. I think that’s a plus.”

Anticipation of teamwork

After the party presidency, the SP also occupies the second most important leadership position with a double. The two emphasize that this is not an emergency solution, because nobody wants to become a parliamentary group leader on their own. “We are very happy to work as a team,” says Bendahan. “I think it’s a lot better and it’s a lot more fun and I also think there’s more to it.”

In business, such sharing models have long been established, even in management positions, says Marti. “Swiss politics certainly has some catching up to do here and we are now taking the next step.”

I’m motivated to convince as many people as possible of my choice in the Basel area over the next few weeks.

On September 1, the two took over a faction from their predecessor Roger Nordmann that politicized very closely. The two of them don’t want to do anything new. “We don’t want to change something just to change this thing, we want to discuss with the group and know what is better in the future,” emphasizes Bendahan.

Re-election not yet in the towel

With the elections in October there will certainly be changes in the SP ranks. And last but not least, Bendahan and Marti have to make it again themselves. There is a certain risk in the re-election of the Basel bidder. “Of course, elections are never a sure-fire success or just a walk in the park, and in that sense I’m motivated to convince as many people as possible of my election in the Basel area over the next few weeks,” says Marti.

So the voters in the Basel area and Vaud have a say in the future of this duo.
