New Spotify function delights fans: the player gets a little brother

The Windows and Mac versions of Spotify are getting an innovation that many have longed for. It’s small, but it promises much more convenient music streaming if you’re busy doing something else at the same time. Spotify is adding a mini player to the service.

This is placed over your current applications in the form of a discreet and visually customizable window and is therefore always present. You can then close the actual Spotify main window and the music will continue to play. You can shrink the miniplayer and move it freely. The player of course contains all the keys important for music streaming, such as the start and pause key, buttons for changing tracks and a volume control.

New Spotify feature: That’s why it was long overdue

The feature is particularly practical if you generally use Spotify for background sound when you are surfing the net, writing emails or texts, or otherwise working on the computer. Instead of always having to jump back and forth between your current application and Spotify to adjust the volume or change the song, you can now do this conveniently directly via the always-present miniplayer.

The first reactions from users to Spotify’s official announcement already paint a positive picture and the new function is literally flooded with praise. The mini player for the PC version of Spotify is already available, but as the company says it is “currently only available to premium users”. However, the “current” in this statement suggests that the feature will also be made available to normal Spotify users in the future.
