New star of tobacconists, the disposable electronic cigarette is shaking the vape market


Since the end of 2021, the “puff” has overshadowed established players, tobacco groups in the lead.

The young and the youngest are snapping it up in tobacconists and on the internet. The disposable electronic cigarette, or “puff” (puff in English), has seen its sales explode since January. Faced with open refillable systems – the consumer fills his device with the liquid of his choice – and closed – he can only use a refill, or “pod”, compatible with the device -, the disposable e-cig offers the advantage simplicity.

Since January, this new segment has been driving the vaping market, estimated at 2.8 million users and 832 million euros in turnover in 2021 (80% generated by open systems and 20% by closed systems). Some estimate that it already weighs 10% of the market. At the tobacconists who offer them, sales of vape products soared by 20 to 30% in the first quarter.
