New storms expected in Germany for Friday

According to the German Weather Service, extreme thunderstorms with severe gusts of wind and hurricanes as well as heavy rain and hail are expected in North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Brandenburg and Saxony from Friday afternoon.

Expected from Friday afternoon German weather service (DWD) in a strip from North Rhine-Westphalia and northern Rhineland-Palatinate to Brandenburg and Saxony, some extreme thunderstorms with heavy storm and hurricane gusts as well as heavy rain and hail are again spreading. There will also be severe thunderstorms in the southwest. In northern and central Hesse, on the other hand, fog is expected in places. The weather will calm down again for the weekend. In the north it remains changeable.

After restrictions on train traffic between the Netherlands and North Rhine-Westphalia due to a heavy thunderstorm on Thursday, long-distance trains ran again on Thursday evening without restrictions, as Deutsche Bahn announced on Thursday evening on Twitter. The route between Cologne and Düsseldorf is now free again after the overhead line has been repaired.

Due to the storm, trains on the route between Cologne and Amsterdam were temporarily diverted via Venlo on Thursday. Delays and cancellations are said to have occurred. Meanwhile, train travelers were asked to check the travel connection on the online portals or the train app.
