New streaming service “Paramount +”: Netflix, Disney + and Co. will have competition from December

The period for the start of Paramount+ in Germany has finally been set: The streaming service, which is particularly eagerly awaited by “Star Trek” fans, will be released will celebrate its premiere in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in December 2022.

This emerges from a press release from the provider – in which the subscription price for Paramount + is already revealed: As a single offer, the Access to Paramount+ for 7.99 euros per month. Paramount+ content is included in the Sky Q subscription with Cinema package for free.

Paramount+: This is how you receive the new streaming service

Starting in December, you should be able to access the Paramount+ series and film selection via apps for iOS and Android as well as Smart TV user interfaces. This should work with international TV operating systems right from the start, since the corresponding apps are already running on the US home market.

However, when national providers such as Deutsche Telekom will have upgraded their Magenta platforms to this effect is another question. Already at the German market launch of Disney+ 2020, Telekom largely missed the timely app connection for its devices.

The popular new series “Star Trek: Discovery” can no longer be seen on demand in an inclusive subscription – and the celebrated spin-off “Strange New Worlds” has not even started in this country and is therefore not easy to see.

It remains to be seen whether Paramount+ can assert itself against Netflix, Disney+ or Amazon Prime Video. However, the Hollywood giant can draw on an extensive library of well-known brands and films. These may not be available immediately due to long-term contracts, but Paramount could gradually make them exclusive to its streaming service.
