New sub-brand – sporty abbreviation: Opel brings brisk Astra GSe

In the future, Opel intends to combine its top electric models under the new, sporty GSe sub-brand. To start with, however, there is a semi-conventional drive.

The new label is now making its debut in the Astra series, where a 225 hp plug-in hybrid is used as the drive. The combination of 1.5-liter petrol engine and electric motor is already known from many sister models such as the Peugeot 308, but initially crowns the drive program in the compact Opel. In addition, there is a lowered body, special springs and dampers and a newly tuned steering. On the outside, the five-door and station wagon express their special position with a modified front end and 18-inch wheels, among other things. Inside there are Alcantara sports seats. Prices should start at around 45,000 euros. GSe instead of GSE and GS/EThe Astra plug-in hybrids mark the start of the new sub-brand. In the future, Opel intends to mark the sporty versions of the electric cars and plug-in hybrids with the three letters that stand for “Grand Sport electric”. The trio of letters became known in the 1970s and 1980s for vehicles such as the Opel Commodore GS/E and the Opel Monza GSE, where it stood for “Grand Sport Injection” and identified particularly powerful models of the brand.
