From the coming school year, a new subject will be on the timetable in Russia: basic military training. When the young people reach military age, they should already be equipped with the relevant knowledge. They are now learning at school how to use drones.

Russian young people are to learn how to control drones from the school year that begins in September. According to a curriculum published by the Ministry of Education, the students should learn how drones are used militarily and also practice the controls themselves. According to the information, it should also be about repelling enemy drones.

The drone course is said to be aimed at students between the ages of 15 and 17. It is part of the reintroduced military instruction based on the Soviet model in Russian schools from the school year 2023/2024. The basic military training therefore also includes a module for Kalashnikov rifles and hand grenades as well as military drill.

Similar training should also take place at universities. According to the British secret service, this should increase the readiness for mobilization and military service among young people. Pupils approaching conscription age should already be equipped with military skills.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, several innovations designed to teach patriotism have also been introduced in Russian schools. The school week begins with the playing of the national anthem and the hoisting of the flag. In addition, a subject was introduced in which, among other things, the offensive in Ukraine should be discussed. In the Ukraine conflict, drones are used by both sides. Such attacks occur on Russian territory almost every day.
