New ticket rules on the train: What train drivers have to pay attention to from January 1st

Spontaneous travelers can no longer buy tickets on the train from the conductors of Deutsche Bahn in the new year. In contrast, the “DB Navigator” smartphone app is becoming even more important for train drivers.

As reported by the Bavarian consumer center, there will be no more tickets for train staff from the turn of the year. So far, paper tickets on the ICE or Intercity can also be purchased from the train crew at a later date – for an extra charge of 17 euros.

After departure, digital tickets will in future only be available via the DB Navigator App or can be booked on a notebook via the Bahn website. Important to know: There is a deadline of ten minutes after departure (even if you are delayed).

Without a ticket on the train? The penalties are increasing

From 2022, only the severely disabled will be exempt from the sales ban. They should continue to get their tickets from the train staff and then receive an invoice afterwards.

For everyone else, if you get on a long-distance train without a ticket from January 1, 2022, you have to dig deep into your pockets. According to the law, double the fare is due, but at least 60 euros.

In extreme cases, DB can charge twice the flex price for the entire train connection – with 250 to 300 euros, the increased transport fee can sometimes be double or triple as high as a previously purchased saver fare ticket with a specific train connection.
