Deprived of festivities last year due to curfew, the vast majority of French people intend to celebrate New Year’s Eve on Friday evening, according to a survey
This year, there’s no way to miss the party! According to a poll * carried out before the explosion of Covid-19 cases, more than 80% of those questioned planned to celebrate the change of year. Among them, half (46.3%) will do it from home, the other half (45.3%) outside, while 10.7% have nothing planned and 8.6% will remain alone .
Show this barometer “The French, New Year’s Eve and drunk driving”, presented by the road prevention and the association Insurance Prevention, 37% of those questioned plan to take measures to avoid driving in a state of drunkenness, such as sleeping in place or designating a person who will not drink alcohol.
Poor knowledge of risks
But as the sponsors of the survey point out, 32.7% of respondents state at least one “false solution”, such as that of taking small roads with little traffic or driving slowly, and this because of “always knowing” plot on the blood alcohol level and the risks involved ”. One in two respondents ignore, for example, the elimination time of alcohol, which is one to two hours per glass of alcohol consumed, they note.
With 804 people killed in an accident involving an alcoholic driver in 2020, alcohol is involved in 31% of fatal accidents and reaches 49% for night accidents, recalls Road Safety, citing the National Interministerial Road Safety Observatory . Twenty people lost their lives on the roads on December 31, 2019 and January 1, 2020, the latest figures since a curfew was in effect last year. Ile-de-France residents will have alternatives to the car. RERs will run, as will six metro lines (1, 2, 5, 6, 9, 14) open between approximately 2.15 a.m. and 5.30 a.m.
