There's everything at New York Fashion Week: wearable items and totally bizarre trends. We reveal which of these we can really implement in everyday life.

New York Fashion Week is one of the most important events when it comes to fashion and trends. But let's be honest, what is shown on the catwalk doesn't really make it into our closet in most cases. The reason: The things are simply too extraordinary, too bizarre or simply not wearable in everyday life. At least most of them, because we have found three exceptions for you here.

Crushed Velvet

Velvet has been in the fashionable fast lane for some time. And almost every one of us is guaranteed to have a piece with a velvet look, even if it's in the farthest corner of your closet. At New York Fashion Week, however, we discovered a new-old version of our favorite material: Crushed Velvet.

The structured surface makes the new trend parts special (we already knew that in 2005). Especially for blazers, dresses and even boots with the crushed velvet look, we are already reserving a space in our closet – and so far up front!

Western style

Wild, wild, west – a motto that usually only appears in films and series. Wait! Because on the catwalks of New York Fashion Week 2021 we saw some parts that we definitely put on our must-have list. The western style has made it into the collection of more than one designer (including Anna Sui, Jason Wu and Jonathan Simkhai) – and it is amazingly wearable.

Cool coats with fringes, ponchos, classic cowboy boots and even cow prints can be combined amazingly cool in everyday life. As long as you don't style them all together. It is important to note that if you choose a maximum of one piece with a western look, in the end you will not look like you came from a second-class western film, but like a real fashionista.

The new layering

The layering – or as we used to call it the onion look – honestly never really disappeared, but it hasn't been that cool for a long time. But thanks to the tank tops, which have resurfaced without warning, the trend is on the rise. And that was far from all: At New York Fashion Week, everything that works is layered. Above all, t-shirts, long sleeves and turtleneck sweatshirts.

Well, do you have memories? With us, yes, because we already wore and loved this in the 2000s. The easiest to combine are print t-shirts with simple long-sleeved shirts. But crop tops also look super cool. If you like, you can even layer turtlenecks and slip dresses with spaghetti straps. And what always applies to these fashion week trends: everything can, nothing has to be done. But who are we telling this …
