It all starts when Ryan Atwood (Ben McKenzie), a teenager from a difficult neighborhood, is charged with complicity in theft and escapes prison thanks to his public defender, Sandy Cohen (Peter Gallagher), who invites him to come and live for a while in his huge house in the upscale neighborhoods of Newport Beach.
Ryan then discovers a new world, in which he feels out of place. But he can count on the support of the Cohens. And especially of Seth (Adam Brody), the son of Sandy and Kirsten (Kelly Rowan), who, more than a friend, will quickly become a brother for him.
The friendship that unites Ryan and Seth is one of the big strengths of the series. And in just a few episodes – out of a total of 92 produced between 2003 and 2007 – Seth Cohen has easily established himself as Newport Beach’s fan-favorite character.
