Widely acclaimed by critics during its broadcast, between 2010 | 2015, this series could very soon make its return! It looks like the Bridgerton Chronicles, so keep your eyes peeled.

If you like the mix between history and romance of the Bridgerton Chronicles, Season 3 of which is expected on May 16 on Netflix, then you should take a look at Downton Abbey… This series in six seasons, broadcast between 2010 and 2015 on ITV in the United Kingdom – then Netflix in France – immerses the viewer in the British aristocracy of the early 1900s. The story even begins in 1912 just after the sinking of the Titanic. The Crawley family loses its heir and must therefore find a new shoe to suit them. It will be Matthew Crawley, a “simple” lawyer, who will take up the torch. From there, Downton Abbey invites us to follow the various twists and turns and ups and downs of the family – from the lords living in the gilt, to the servants who keep their giant mansion running.

Real qualities

Despite appearances, behind the luxury and the “rose water” stories, Downton Abbey demonstrates real writing and acting qualities even allowing actress Maggie Smith (Mcgonagall in Harry Potter) to win the Best Supporting Actress award at the Emmy Awards in 2016 for her interpretation of Violet. The series also has other renowned actors, such as Hugh Bonneville (Paddington). All in all, the TV show received excellent ratings, like the reference site Rotten Tomatoes where the press gave it an 87% (82% for Bridgerton).

When will we return?

With all this, more than one viewer is waiting for the return of the Crawley family. In 2019, the series – officially finished – was the subject of a first feature film soberly called Downton Abbey, which followed the TV show. Rebelote in 2022, with Downton Abbey: A New Era… So, what’s next?

Now it’s the media Sensacin which echoes the various rumors on this subject. Beyond a possible “Season 7”, it is the echo of a 3rd film which was relayed by several British tabloids, including the Daily Mail and The Sun! Obviously, several original actors from the series would be returning and filming could begin as early as this summer. For the moment, no official announcement even if the words of Imelda Staunton (Dolores Umbridge) – who participated in the two Downtown feature films – last March were quite evocative… On the BBC, she said that there will indeed have “a final film”.
