Released in theaters for the first time in 1997, Titanic overwhelmed the competition with record-breaking numbers. Even today, it is one of those must-sees of cinema and remains anchored in the memory of those who see it. A juggernaut of the seventh art with multiple memorable scenes, some of which required multiple takes.

Outtakes that depend on the time of day

At the end of the year, British actress Kate Winslet is back in the spotlight. It is to talk about Lee, a film in which she plays the leading role through a photographer during the Second World War and broadcast since October 9 in France, that she is making the rounds on television sets. She was then invited to the set of the show CàVous on France 5 where she responded to journalists’ comments.. And obviously, the return to the film Titanic (1997) is inevitable:

It’s funny that you take this sequence because it’s the only one that makes me roll my eyes. When we filmed, we did it 2 to 3 times on different days, depending on the sunset (…) When I look, I say to myself that it’s so technical!

She adds that to direct the scene where her character Rose and that of Jake (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) kiss, you had to reapply your makeup between each take. So they had their own makeup tools on hand. A disadvantage generated by the altitude at which the scene was filmed

Kate Winslet’s head full of anecdotes

A scene to which, in post-production, we add the song as a watermark My Heart Will Go One by Celine Dion. A title that, we recall, no one wanted. Anecdotes like that exist in spades on Titanic. Still as part of the promotion of the film, it’s on the microphone of Josh Horowitz through his podcast Happy, Sad, Confused that it bursts the abscess. It is around one of the final scenes that she explains:

Well it was a sort of big swimming pool, a bit embarrassing… and to burst the abscess, the water was waist high all the way through. (…) Leo was simply on his knees. Maybe I shouldn’t say that. James Cameron is going to scold me.

Filming secrets that James Cameron himself does not hesitate to confide. It was he who told the story behind the scene where Jake, played by DiCaprio, made a drawn portrait of Rose. But in fact, it’s James Cameron who is at the origin of the portraitthe director admitting that DiCaprio doesn’t know how to draw at all.
