Sometimes, in the biggest cities in the world, it is possible to come across very famous personalities. In New York, it is certainly the subway which is the biggest meeting place and photos taken discreetly to preserve a memory of this improbable meeting. In 2018, a passenger took a photo of one of the stars of Denis Villeneuve’s films… while she was holding a Dune book in her hand!
A prophetic photo that fits perfectly with the universe of Dune
With hindsight, there are sometimes clichés that take on an almost prophetic content. In the case of the work Dune by Frank Herbert, later adapted by Denis Villeneuve, it is even more comical since the hero, Paul Atréides, is considered a messiah, a prophet who must guide his people. Today, he is played by actor Timothée Chalamet and it’s a role that we could have seen coming years ago ! Although we were able to discover the actor on giant screens in September 2021, it has already been a while since casting was completed.
The first time we were able to make the connection between Dune and Timothée Chalamet, it was in April 2020 through a first promotional image of the actor in his Paul Atréides costume. At that time, it had already been quite a few months since the negotiations were completed but fans had absolutely no idea when one of them immortalized the actor in the New York subway in 2018, reading Frank Herbert’s book. Given that the agreement to play Paul Atréides was signed towards the end of 2018, we can easily understand that reading this book – quite different from the films on certain points – was very far from trivial!
Dune 2, a film that rains tickets and breaks records
Today, Timothée Chalamet and the entire five-star cast of the new adaptation of Dune reign over the box office with stratospheric figures, even if there are a specific film that is currently giving him a hard time ! After a first inaugural part which had already caused a sensation, this second opus pushes the boundaries of success and is on track to greatly exceed the receipts of the film released in September 2021. What’s more, it is also thanks to this sequel that Timothée Chalamet was able to make an even stronger mark on the history of cinema!
The consecration is double for the young actor since‘a 45-year-old record now rightfully belongs to him due to the success, one after the other, of the film Wonka and of Dune Part 2. For the moment, we do not yet know where the second part will stop in terms of box office receipts but it is well and truly on track to make a lasting mark on the year 2024 ! However, for the rest, we will have to wait a long time… If it is rumored that some actors could reappear in the third part, Denis Villeneuve admitted that he would not direct the third part only on one condition.
