If most remakes concern films and series dating from the 1970s at most, some look a little further. This is the case for Netflix, which plans to release a remake of this legendary 70-year-old French thriller.

A 70-year-old thriller returns to Netflix

It’s not every day that we have the opportunity to discover a story originally released in the 1950s. However, this is what Netflix intends to offer in the months to come thanks to the remake of the film The Wages of Fear. Originally released in 1953, this Franco-Italian film was then directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot, whose name will perhaps mean something to most movie buffs. It must be said that this director is one of the greatest of the 1950s. He has indeed won the three supreme awards from the main European festivals (the Golden Lion, the Palme d’Or and the Golden Bear), as his colleagues Michelangelo Antonioni, Jean-Luc Godard and Robert Altman. Moreover, Clouzot also directed the documentary The Mystery of Picasso, which was later declared a national treasure by the French government.

Adaptation of the novel of the same name by Georges Arnaud, The Wages of Fear is a drama-adventure thriller telling the story of four truck drivers on a mission to transport a dangerous and highly unstable load of nitroglycerin. The latter must in fact be used to extinguish the fire in an oil well which broke out 500 kilometers from the characters’ initial position. If you have never seen this legendary film, Netflix invites you to rediscover it from a more recent perspective thanks to a remake.

An explosive teaser and a team that makes you want it

Just yesterday, Netflix released the first teaser for its own version of The Wages of Fear.. Thanks to the latter (which you can discover in our automatic reader at the top of the article), we can already see that the SVOD service intends to pull out all the stops. Beautiful images with a realistic style, big explosions and weapons of all kinds, this new version seems to want to join other French productions which try to do things a little more ambitious than the multiple comedies and other usual family dramas.

It must be said that The Wages of Fear will this time be directed by Julien Leclerq, which you could see at work in the film and series Robbers, also available on Netflix. In the casting, you will also be able to find some well-known faces like Franck Gastambide (Taxi 5, The Kaira), Alban Lenoir (AKA, Glittery Shrimp), Ana Girardot (The flame, Two Me) And Sofiane Zermani (Weeds, The Silver Venus). Enough to ensure at least a good show, or even a memorable film. If you want to discover this new version of the cult thriller, you will need to connect to Netflix from March 29, 2024.
