After a disastrous first part, Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 is currently making some critics happy, to everyone’s surprise.

At the start of 2023, cinema witnessed a real turning point (no) with the release of the low-budget film Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey, which featured Winnie the Pooh, Piglet and their family in a horrific setting. friend Christopher Robin. The latter having become an adult, he slowly let go of his animal friends, who turned against him in a rather ferocious manner. Result: the film inherits the rather appalling score of 3% on Rotten Tomatoes and convinces absolutely no one. “We would like the Supreme Court to repeal its copyright laws in the public domain“, Decider wrote about him.

And yet, by winning $5.2 million for a budget of $100,000, the feature film was profitable and allowed the production of a sequel “bigger and badder” which obviously seems much more convincing. The film was released yesterday in the United States (no date planned in France, unfortunately) and the critics have their own opinion, highlighting a better quality of production for this episode.

The film initially earned a perfect score of 100% based on 6 reviews before slowly falling back to a score of 80% (for 10 reviews). Variety writes that it “There may be a lot more going on in “Blood and Honey 2,” but let’s have no illusions. It’s above all a shambles“For its part, the SciFiNow media evokes a film”grotesque, premonitory and stupid…“, noting all the same “a vast improvement over the original film, with the lost and damaged childhood still at the heart of the film, and the trauma never truly dead and buried“. Finally AV Club seems more seduced by the experience.

This is cinema at its most punk rock – a raucous, unpolished, cheap, holy cow, middle finger to the mainstream, with just enough raw talent inside to keep it from ‘be rejectable.

Looking at these comments, it is still very difficult to understand why the average is so high.

The Poohniverse approaching

Funnily enough, actor and producer Scott Chambers recently suggested to Variety that the “Pohniverse” was underway. The public can therefore expect to see a new film including Pinocchio, the Mad Hatter, Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, Bambi or even Tinker Bell in an absolutely monstrous version. “As horror fans, we’d like the Avengers to just be villains” explained Scott Chambers. Before adding: “There would be Freddy Krueger, Jason, Halloween, Scream, all these characters. Obviously that will never happen, but we can do it our way, and that’s how this film was born”. Chambers clearly intends to shatter our purest childhood dreams.

The project would be taken on by Rhys Jake-Waterfield, the director of Blood and Honey and Blood and Honey 2, who hopes to see the return of actors Scott Chambers, Megan Plactio, Roxanne Mckee and Lewis Santer. Jagged Edge, the production company, still has other ideas in mind, such as producing the films Bambi: The Reckoning and Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare which will all have things in common. Poohniverse: Monsters is expected to hit theaters in 2025.
